ConnectPlus is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Virginia dedicated to promoting mutual learning by connecting individuals of distinct backgrounds yet similar interests.
We are always looking for partnerships with more volunteers, interns, school clubs, and other organizations who share our vision to make our services accessible to more in need. We are happy to provide the following: (1) volunteer hours, (2) community service hours, and (3) volunteer certificates. Volunteering or interning experiences with ConnectPlus could be put in college applications and resumes for other purposes.
ConnectPlus was founded in 2020 with the goal of bridging people across cultural, language, and geographical barriers. As of December 2022, we have connected over 1300 people for general English lessons, debate lessons, and social opportunities, hosting over 9500 courses.
Huishuo English (HSE), ConnectPlus’ most original program, is dedicated to make English education accessible for more. We believe that connecting with people is the best way to learn, and that distance or financial concerns should never be an obstacle to learning.
ConnectPlus is dedicated to making education accessible to all, including people with special needs. In the TangBaoBao (TBB) Program, ConnectPlus partners with multiple local nonprofit organizations in China to offer specialized English courses for children with Down’s Syndrome. Tutors for the TBB Program are required to undergo additional training to better suit the needs of our students. In comparison to 1V1 classes, classes of the TBB Program are more structured and more need- sensitive.
HSE’s 1V1 English Course focuses on teaching students practical oral English skills, which will help them navigate through complex interactions with various people. The suggested 1V1 curriculum revolves around diverse themes of conversation that might arise in real life, ranging from the most basic self-introduction to deeper discussions of societal issues. However, on top of the curriculum, tutors are free to adjust to the student’s needs and devise their own lesson plans.
ConnectPlus is working with Speechc&Debate Academy to present spontaneous argumentation (SPAR) courses. Speech Debate Academy is a charitable organization based in San Diego, California, USA, dedicated to providing high-quality and accessible debate education. All tutors from Speech & Debate Academy are highly qualified and recognized professional debaters. Contact them through info@ learnspeechanddebate.com for more information.
HSE Humanities Series is designed to help students explore various humanities subjects in a liberal-arts education style. In our small, engaging classrooms, students will gain plenty of individual attention and chances for participation, discussion, and debate. The humanities course series focuses heavily on writing and reading in order to train students’ critical thinking skills, as well as advanced English usage. Intern tutors will be responsible for self-designing and teaching the entire course. Specifics of the course (including course content, class format, assessment style etc.) might vary depending on individual tutors and courses. Past course subjects include Western Moral Philosophy, Literature Analysis, Linguistics, and World History.
